It approved it on Wednesday night (25) the complementary bill that increases the number of federal deputies from 513 to 531. Already by, the proposal was chanceled by 41 votes, against 33, and no abstention.

Congressmen state that the proposal fulfills a decision of the (Supreme Court) on the subject. In August 2023, at the request of Pará, the Court that the number of federal deputies per state was readjusted to the population measured by the 2022 census.

If the proposal comes into force, no state will lose representatives in the House, and nine will win. They are Pará and Santa Catarina, who will have four deputies each other; Amazonas, Mato Grosso and Rio Grande do Norte, which will earn two each; and Goiás, Ceará, P Araná and Minas Gerais, who will have one deputy each other.

The House calculates at R $ 64.6 million per year the increase in costs with the creation of vacancies of deputies, including wages, benefits and structure for new parliamentarians. The rapporteur of the proposal, Deputy Damião Feliciano (União Brasil-PB), states that this amount will be absorbed by the current budget.
