The Secretary General of the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP), Paulo Raimundo
PCP Secretary-General Paulo Raimundo argues that if the government wants to streamline the economy, it can increase workers’ salaries, instead of waiting for the additional reduction in IRS retention.
The government delivered on Wednesday, at the Assembly of the Republic, a diploma that foresees one of euros this year, 0.5 percentage points between the first and third echelons, 0.6 percentage points between the fourth and sixth and 0.4 percentage points in the seventh and eighth.
Parliament approved the government’s request for urgency to assess this law proposal.
Expresso reported this Friday that the government is preparing to anticipate this measure, to be in force in early August, with the objective of “Increase consumption in summer and try to lock the slowdown of the economy”.
But the PCP says he has another solution to streamline the economy.
Increase salaries “already tomorrow”
“We have seen today that the government would want to accelerate the so -called IRS measure for August. And it sustained its argument [porque] The economy is giving signs of weakness, and then there must be money in their pockets so people can spend“The PCP leader said.
“It is not worth waiting for August, they can do it tomorrow: Increase salaries, increase the pensions and people are better able to respond to the needs of your life and to streamline the economy, ”he added
On the fringes of a demonstration that joined hundreds of local administration workers, this Friday, in front of Parliament, Raimundo said that These workers “who put the economy to functionare those who guarantee that the country works, they are those that create wealth”.
The communist leader also considered that the PCP has been defending the increase in workers’ income for years and that this measure “will have to impose itself sooner or later.”
Paulo Raimundo also pointed out that the “quintet of the setback”, composed, according to the PCP, by the parties that support government measures in Parliament, “wants to alter the labor laws or further press the lives of these workers, or to advance with restriction measures to the right to strike”.
“You can try it all this, you won’t get it. This strength [dos trabalhadores que hoje se manifestaram] It is a huge force that will not allow it, ”he added.
Workers require salary increase
Hundreds of local administration workers protested today in Lisbon, in a march between Largo Camões and Parliament, in a protest to demand wages and supplements in the face of the rise of living costs.
According to the Local Administration Workers Union (Stal), which scheduled the protest, Workers require the increase of all wagesthat is, operational assistants, technical assistants and higher technicians.
The Stal accompanied the claiming proposal of the Common Front and the other public administration unions, proposing an interchange minimum wage to reach 1,000 euros this yearwith a minimum increase of 150 euros for all workers.
Workers also claim the Increased meal allowancethe overall appreciation of careers and the replacement of careers of the local administration.
