India refused an offer from the UN (United Nations) Aviation Agency to include one of its investigators in the investigation of the Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner accident that killed 260 people in Ahmedabad on June 12, according to a report by the report by Reuters on Thursday (26.jun.2025).
Icao (International Civil Aviation Organization) made an unusual movement at the beginning of the week by offering investigative assistance without being requested. Icao asked its investigator, who was already in India, to receive the status as an observer in the investigation, but the Indian authorities rejected this proposal.
This refusal occurs amid criticism from some security experts on delays in crucial data analysis of the injured aircraft’s black boxes.
The news was first released by the Indian news channel Times Now on Thursday.
The ICAO has already sent researchers to assist in certain air disaster investigations, including the crash of a Malaysian plane in 2014 and a Ukrainian jet in 2020. However, in such cases, the agency had been specifically requested to provide assistance.
