Japan for the first time since 2022 carried out execution

For the first time since 2022, Japan executed a man waiting in a cell of death, the NHK public service television and other media announced on Friday. In the case of the executed, they are Takahir Širaiši, convicted for the murder of nine people. TASR informs according to AFP report.

The murder, 34-year-old Širaiši, also nicknamed the “Twitter murderer”, which is the original name of the social platform X, was committed in 2017.

Širaiši was sentenced to the death penalty for the murder of nine persons he met on the platform. His victims, mostly women aged 15 to 26, lured him into his apartment at the metropolis of Tokyo, where he killed them and cut their bodies, writes AFP.

The victim killed against their will

He focused mainly on victims who had suicidal tendencies. He then promised them to help them die. He then hid the pieces of bodies in the freezer boxes in his small apartment, where the police also discovered them in the search for one of the victims.

The defense originally claimed that the victims had died voluntarily, and asked that the Širaiši not be judged for murder. However, he later confirmed that he killed them against their will. The victims were eight women and one man who was known to one of the missing women.

Japan has one of the highest levels of suicide among industrial countries; Approximately 20,000 people voluntarily end their lives in the country every year. Japan and the United States are the only two members of the G7 group who have retained the implementation of the death penalty, says AFP.
