The president (PT) changed the place of the families living in the Favela do Moinho, in the center of, and will no longer make the ceremony in the MST shed. Nevertheless, Governor Tarcisio de Freitas (Republicans) will not attend the event, scheduled for this Thursday (26).
According to the column, Lula complained about the “lack of people” in an act closed in the shed of the MST, which would gather several housing movements, but, in the view of the president, would be distant from the population. Therefore, the ceremony was transferred to the Moinho favela itself, as initially was planned by the federal and state spheres.
The presidency had decided to make the ceremony in the shed of the, which is close to the favela, for security reasons. The idea contributed to make Tarcisio’s presence unfeasible, as the movement is harshly criticized by pockets.
Even with Lula’s retreat, Tarcisio will not participate in the solemnity, which would be in the morning and was transferred to 14h. The Bandeirantes Palace justified that he will have another social housing event in noon, and from there he will go to Lagoinha, city 190 km from the state capital.
The presidency was bothered by the fact that another housing event was held simultaneously to the announcement in the Mill favela. Lula and Tarcisio are quoted as possible opponents in the 2026 presidential dispute.
After conflicts between families living in the favela and the state government, which put into practice one, the two spheres for residents, even housing program created to assist families affected by floods in Rio Grande do Sul last year.
Each family will be entitled to choose a property of up to R $ 250 thousand, being R $ 180 thousand funded by the federal government and R $ 70 thousand by the São Paulo government.
