Images released this week by the Southern District Public Prosecutor’s Office in South Korea reveal the moment of panic experienced by passengers during a criminal fire inside a line 5 train from the South Korean capital. The attack, which took place on May 31, left 29 injured and generated rush in crowded wagons.

In the security cameras video, you can see the suspect pouring a flammable liquid to the wagon floor just before starting the fire. Passengers come into despair, trying to escape through the doors. A woman even slips and falls to the floor seconds before the start of the flames. The smoke quickly takes the wagon and spreads to the next car, also full of passengers.

The train was moving between the Yeouinaru and Mapo stations around 8:42 am, peak time. Six people were injured by the flames and another 23, including the author of the attack, were hospitalized for smoke inhalation. 129 more passengers received medical attention on site.

The attack resulted in the partial destruction of one of the cars and damages estimated at 330 million Won, about R $ 1.3 million. The accused, a 67 -year -old man identified by the surname Won, was arrested shortly after the attack. To the police, he said he began the fire in response to the outcome of a divorce process and revealed that he had bought gasoline two weeks before the crime.

This week, the Southern District Public Prosecutor’s Office filed a formal complaint against the suspect for attempted murder, a fire with injury and violation of the Railway Safety Law. The court had already issued an arrest warrant on June 2, and a psychological assessment ruled out evidence of psychopathy.
