Cooljazz starts July 4th with Benjamin Clementine, as a poster head. On the same day, the 42nd edition of the Almada Festival begins, which has an extension to the CCB. Karla Campos, from the Cooljazz organization, and Rodrigo Francisco, director of the Almada Festival, were invited from the poster.
Cooljazz returns to Cascais next month. “It was a bet to use July for the festival,” says Karla Campos of the organization. A way to space the shows and also facilitate the hiring of artists. Per day there are four performances.
At the Manuel Posso Hippodrome there are the great concerts of the night, such as Benjamin Clementine, SEAL or Tindesticks. In the first part, there are a stage to Portuguese artists, such as Rita Vian, Margarida Campelo or Goose. The song starts at 20:00 at Marechal Carmona Park with Jazz and, at the end of the night, there are performances with DJ.
“O is a fusion of sounds,” adds Karla Campos. On Sundays there is a free schedule in the Garden of the Parade. A new and larger place in the heart of the Museum neighborhood. A way to extend the party, with free admission, and to promote the festival, which has about 30% of foreign audience.
The Almada Festival, which goes to the 42nd edition, also has free concerts – 16. A way to return to the festival community that seeks a “close relationship with spectators,” says director Rodrigo Francisco. The show of honor (public choice) is this example. This year, “La Tempesta” is recovered by an Italian company that presents the text by Shakespeare, with puppets.
With a condensed program – “There are 20 shows in 15 days” – the festival features creators who followed the festival, such as Emma Dante or Thomas Ostermeier. The director says that “is on the line of the Avignon Festival”. Between debuts, replacements and old acquaintances, the festival widens to dance, debates and exhibitions, such as the show dedicated to Lia Gama. The actress is honored this year.
In the poster, we also anticipate, in Lisbon, who brings together a Portuguese artist and a Spanish collective and we heard A, which has the participation of Sleepytheprince.
