Managers of the intend to make a meeting with the former minister next week to discuss a possible affiliation of his acronym. The subtitle summit also wants to trim edges with the former governor of Ceará after he has made several criticisms of the party in recent years.
Ciro is affiliated with, but the party’s migration to the allied base of Governor Elmano de Freitas (PT) paved the way for his way out of the acronym.
In the PSDB, the responsible for the dialogue with Ciro is former Senator Tasso Jereissati (PSDB-CE), who has a good relationship with the former minister and has been his ally in the state.
The tendency is that, next week, PSDB national president Marconi Perillo has a meeting with Ciro with other members of the acronym. The meeting place is not yet defined.
The PSDB management is inclined to defend a Cyrus candidacy for Ceará’s government in 2026. The party aims to return to protagonism in an important state of the Northeast and the election of allied deputies of the former minister by the party.
In Ceará, Ciro has been broken with the PT since 2022 and has opposed the Governor Elmano de Freitas.
There are, however, members of the PSDB who have caveats to Ciro for criticism he recently made to the party and former President Fernando Henrique Cardoso.
At the meeting, the leaders want to encourage Cyrus to trim the edges and, if he opts for affiliation, aligning the speech of a mea-mulp on the speeches given in the past.
In 2018, when he played in the Presidency of the Republic for the third time, Ciro mocked a letter written by FHC asking for the union of center candidacies amid the polarization that was drawn between and Fernando Haddad, who followed the second round of that year.
“It is much easier for a ox to fly on his back. The FHC does not realize that he has passed. My suggestion to him, that he deserves, is that change that pajamas of balls that is kind of strange for a pajama of stars. Because, in fact, he is preparing the vote in Fernando Haddad, because he has no respect for anything and no one, except for his own ego,” said Ciro in a campaign act.
: “I’m sure Ciro recognizes the virtues of President Fernando Henrique Cardoso.”
In an interview with SBT in December 2015, Ciro currently classified, a federal deputy and one of the leading PSDB leaders, such as “a disappointment for an old 35 -year -old friend.” According to sources, even so, the Minas Gerais politician would not have presented caveats to Ciro’s affiliation.
Cyrus can integrate an opposition coalition to the PT in Ceará next year. He was an ally of the party in the state for 16 years, but the alliance imploded in 2022, when the current Minister of Education, Camilo Santana (PT), launched his own petista candidate in the elections for the government of Ceará.
At the time, Ciro supported the former mayor of Fortaleza Roberto Claudio, who was from the PDT and is now affiliated with União Brasil. The candidacy was eventually defeated by the PT in the first round.
In May, Ciro appealed for the Union of Oppositions in Ceará e. He is the father of federal deputy André Fernandes (PL), defeated in 2024 in the second round of the dispute for the Fortaleza City Hall. “I hope to vote for you to senator,” Ciro told Alcides.
If Ciro is a candidate for the government of Ceará, there is a possibility of alliance with PL and União Brasil at the state level. PSDB leaders have already sent a message to Cyrus that they would not have exception to any alliance in the state, although the toucan party possibly opting for a different PL stage at national level in 2026.
Despite the toucan desire, Ciro indicated to local allies that intends to support Roberto Claudio for the state government. The former mayor joined União Brasil with the support of former deputy Captain Wagner, defeated in the dispute for the executive of Ceará in 2022 and for the Fortaleza City Hall three times in a row.
Wagner is quoted to compete in the Senate in 2026 along with Alcides Fernandes, father of André Fernandes. In this scenario, the definition of the plate head, which could be Ciro or Roberto Cláudio, would remain.
On the ruling side, Elmano de Freitas must be a candidate for reelection. The dispute is for the two vacancies to the Senate. Federal deputies Eunício Oliveira (MDB), José Guimarães (PT) and Junior Mano (PSB) are pre-candidates for senator, as well as businessman Chiquinho Feitosa (Republicans), who was the alternate of Tasso Jereissati.
Senator Cid Gomes (PSB) tends to abdicate reelection and support Junior Mano, who was expelled from PL in 2024 after participating in the campaign of the mayor of Fortaleza, Evandro Leitão (PT).
Cid, even, is broken politically with Brother Ciro. In an interview with a Sobral Radio (CE) in May, the senator said that if his brother is a candidate in 2026, he will be “in an absolutely embarrassing situation.”
Before that, Ciro said he had no problems in the personal field with his brother, but he called him an accomplice of the petista government: “God took off my launch from my back in my back. However, I see Senator Cid as connive and accomplice of this tragedy that is happening in the state.”
In case of affiliation, Ciro would return to the PSDB after almost 30 years. He was affiliated to the party between 1990 and 1997. In the period, he was governor of Ceará and Minister of Finance of the Government of Itamar Franco.
The former minister’s historic party also includes PSD, PMDB, PPS, PPS, PSB, Pros and PDT. On several occasions, Cyrus has defined his party trajectory as “a tragedy” in reasons for the various changes of association.
