The state of faced a significant change in its migratory profile, registering, for the first time since 1991, a negative balance. In contrast, Santa Catarina stood out as the state with the highest population growth in Brazil, with a positive migratory balance of 354,400 people. This increase is attributed to a more dynamic job market and job opportunities that attract new residents. Rio de Janeiro, in turn, also faced a negative migratory balance, with a significant loss of 165,400 people, reflecting economic challenges in the region.

The Southeast region, which has historically been a migrant attraction center, also registered for the first time in more than three decades a negative migratory balance. This change is indicative that living and work conditions in the region may no longer be as attractive as in previous years. On the other hand, the South and Midwest regions of Brazil had positive migratory balances, suggesting that these areas are becoming more attractive to new residents. In addition, Northeast and Northern Brazil also showed negative migratory balances by 2022.
