The victories and performance of Brazilian teams against European clubs at the Club World Cup caused them to increase their search for “Brazilian League” around the world, according to Google Trends data.
The interest in the theme has reached a record of popularity in the period that includes the last five years and was higher compared to December 2023, when Manchester City first won the World Cup with a 4-0 rout over Fluminense.
The peak happened just the week when Botafogo beat Paris Saint-Germain and broke a 13-year fasting of South American teams without wins against European clubs. The feat was rare, being the first victory of a South American club about a European in an official game since 2012, when Corinthians won the World Cup over Chelsea, England.
And the interest remained high, especially after Flamengo’s turn over Chelsea. The red-black team made a great match and won 3-1.
Among the Brazilian clubs that are in the championship, the most sought after on the internet globally during this period were, in order: Flamengo, Palmeiras, Botafogo and Fluminense. These teams also stood out in the search compared to the other participants.
Flamengo, in particular, is among the five most sought after clubs in the world since the beginning of the championship, behind only Real Madrid and PSG.
Also, data from Google Trends show that interest in the Club World Cup has never been as high here as this year. And the tendency is for this interest to remain, as the Brazilian teams advanced to the round of 16 – including a direct confrontation, Palmeiras and Botafogo face each other Saturday (28).
