Information about the 26-year-old was released on Friday at the Bali Mandara Hospital in Denpasar, Indonesia, where the body was examined. In a local press interview, the medical doctor Ida Bagus Alit concluded that the cause of death was trauma, with fractures, injuries to internal organs and intense bleeding.
He answered questions about the injuries and the estimated time between trauma and death. He technically detailed the damage to the body, but it is still unclear which of the falls caused death, estimated by him in about 20 minutes after trauma, nor the exact place where it occurred.
Based on the interview released by several local broadcasters, the GLOBO He gathered, point to point, what he said and what still needs to be clarified.

What was the cause of death?
“From the bone fractures there were damage to the internal organs and bleeding. Thus, we can conclude that the cause of death was a contused trauma that caused damage to internal organs and bleeding.” Then the provisional cause of death is a contused trauma that resulted in fractures, internal damage and bleeding. As for the type of trauma, it was caused by a forceful object. But reinforcement that we are talking about ‘bastard trauma’, and not necessarily a specific object, because I did not see the object. Poor object is something with relatively smooth and solid surface. Most injuries are friction abrasions, that is, the victim’s body has been dragged or suffered contact with hard surfaces. ”
What remains to be clarified: It is not known if it collided with a stone or even on the surface

Did death occur long after the injuries?
“It may be important to clarify that we have not found any evidence that death has occurred long after the injuries. I will repeat: we find no signs that the victim died long after the injuries. It’s relative, but we estimated that it was just 20 minutes after trauma.”
What remains to be clarified. It is unclear which fall, in fact, caused Juliana’s death. This is because tourists managed to film her with movements about three hours after she fell from the trail, as shown in the images. In the video, Juliana appears sitting on the crack of a rock and stirring her hands.
What indicates that death was quick?
“I can explain, for example, that there was a head injury, but there was still no brain hernia, which usually takes a few hours to days to happen. This indicates that there was not enough time to happen, which reinforces that death was quick. The same goes for the chest and abdomen.”

Was there a significant bleeding?
“Bleeding was significant, and the organs, like the spleen, showed no signs of retraction, which would indicate slow bleeding. Then we can say that death occurred in a very short interval after the injuries.”
How much more or less?
“Death occurred between 12 and 24 hours, based on signs of body rigidity and color. But we cannot rule out previous interference, as the body was placed in environments that slow these processes.”
What remains to be clarified: Asked by the reporters present at the press conference about when this time would have occurred – whether before the rescue or after one of the falls – the coroner replied, “Before 10:05 pm.” However, it is not clear to what day it refers. Juliana fell on Mount Rinjani on Saturday morning, the 21st (local time), and the body was rescued four days later, on the afternoon of last Wednesday.

Could hypothermia be the cause of death?
“Hypothermia is usually verified by liquid in the eye. But as the body was in advanced state, we could not perform this exam. In addition, the amount of injuries and bleeding allows us to discard hypothermia as a cause.”
Why is the cause of death provisional?
“Because the autopsy protocol requires complementary examinations, such as toxicology. This does not mean that we suspect poisoning or use of substances, but it is a requirement to be sure beyond any reasonable doubt.” “There are defined patterns for this. In general, the results come out within two weeks.”
“I repeat: the evidence show that death was almost immediate. There was extensive bleeding, multiple fractures and almost entire body injuries, including chest and abdomen organs.”

What was the most serious part?
“The most serious part was the one that affected the respiratory system: chest injuries, especially in the back, which damaged the internal organs.”
Has the contused trauma caused by fall or impact?
“By the pattern of abrasion lesions, it matches a fall.”
What remains to be clarified: It is not yet known the exact place of the fall – and does not confirm if it was in the first or second

Where were these abrasions found?
“Throughout the body, especially in the back, arms and legs. There were head injuries too.”
Was it the head injury that caused death?
“The most serious was on the back. But as the injuries occurred almost simultaneously, it is the set of lesions that led to death. The back region was the most affected.”
What remains to be clarified: The coroner does not specify how many falls or impacts the body may have suffered. Informs that when they occurred, they were simultaneous.
Was there a chance that death was caused for lack of food or water?
“No. The direct cause of death was certainly violence. There was a large amount of blood in the chest cavity, which is not explained by inanition.”
