The immigration service also reported that Noviello was sentenced to one year in prison in 2023 for extortion and drug trafficking in Volusia County, Florida. In May this year, he was found by immigration agents and placed in line to be deported – according to American law, visas of permanent residence can be revoked by certain crimes, including drug trafficking.
The day after the statement, Canada’s chancellor Anita Anand stated that the Canadian consulate had been informed. “The Government of Canada was notified of the death of a Canadian citizen while in custody in the United States. Canadian consular officials are urgently seeking more information with American authorities. I present my sincere condolences to the family,” he said at X (former Twitter).
Death occurred amid numerous arrests by ICE agents, which is part of President Donald Trump’s repressive policy against immigration. Several decrees signed by the president since returning to the White House have determined goals to deport millions of indocmented immigrants. The arrests increased and were followed by allegations of violations of agents and protests across the country.
