President of the prestigious Virginian University (UVA) in the United States James Ryan announced his resignation on Friday for pressure from the Ministry of Justice. It started under the leadership of President Donald Trump’s administration to require US schools to limit the diversity, equality and inclusion programs (DEI), writes TASR based on Reuters, AP and AFP reports.
In his letter to the university community, he wrote that he had to make a difficult decision and resign after realizing that the rejection of the Trump administration requirements would only endanger students and teachers of the institution. Ryan has led a prestigious public university since 2018.
“I can’t make a one -sided decision to fight the federal government just to save a job. To do it would not only be stupid, but it would look selfish and egoistic towards hundreds of employees who would lose work, researchers who lose financing, and hundreds of students who could lose their financial assistance.”
They have identified the requirements as blatantly
In a joint statement, the Virginian democratic senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner identified the requirements of Trump’s administration as “blatant” and said Ryan would damage the university and the whole state. It is not yet clear whether the President of the UVA will withdraw with immediate effect. Several American media, including The New York Times, claim that Ryan’s resignation was required directly by the Ministry of Justice. Otherwise, it was said that it would have threatened to freeze hundreds of millions of dollars from federal funding.
On the first day of joining the presidential office, Trump signed a regulation commanding the federal agencies to terminate all grants and contracts “related to equality”. He required another order from the parties that concluded the government agreements confirm that they did not support the Dei. At the same time, some American universities have accused of supporting anti -Semitism, anti -Americanism, Marxist and “radical left -wing” ideologies.
