Hundreds of people have demonstrated to the shout of judicial independence against the doors of the Supreme Court. A concentration organized by the Conservative Block of Judges and Prosecutors to which many citizens have joined, some coming from other provinces of Spain. The call seeks to make a call to “make visible the essential role of the Judiciary” and its “independence.” Although the manifesto insisted that it was not a protest against “any power of the State”, among the attendees there have been shouts of “Pedro Sánchez, resignation.” Insults have also been heard against the President of the Government and against Félix Bolaños, Minister of Justice. The act also attend Vox leaders, such as Jorge Buxadé.

Since the stage, Sergio Oliva Parrilla, spokesman for the Francisco de Vitoria Judicial Association, has asked for attendees who do not insult. “The insults are not of any judge or any prosecutor,” he said before reading the manifesto.

Concentration of judges and prosecutors before the Supreme Court for the proposal of the new fiscal reform, this Saturday in Madrid.

The five associations of judges and prosecutors have been pressing their pulse to the government for weeks, which has started today with the demonstration, but that intends to go further: they will go to the strike three days (July 1, 2 and 3). They had threatened to do so if the Executive did not withdraw the two legal reforms that it has underway and that affects both careers: the one that provides changes in the form of access and the one that modifies the statute regulated by the Prosecutor’s Office to adapt it to the law that will leave the instruction of the criminal cases to the prosecutors. And this Friday they made the decision to move forward, despite the fact that the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) unemployment because it has no legal support.

The place where the battery of mobilizations that are expected for next week has started, epicenter these days of corruption cases that corner the government, also has a symbolic meaning: “This is the place where opponents who aspire to be part of our careers approve their exams; a space that represents the culmination of long years of silent effort in search of excellence and entry to the public service from the public service from the principles of merit. It is, therefore, an ideal, iconic scenario and loaded with institutional and civic meaning, ”says a text signed by the five convening associations: Professional Association of the Magistracy, the Francisco de Vitoria Judicial Association, Independent Judicial Forum, the Association of Prosecutors and the Professional and Independent Association of Prosecutors. The two progressive associations, judges and judges for democracy and the progressive union of prosecutors have not been added, in general, the legal reforms promoted by the Executive.

The majority associations of judges and prosecutors, openly facing the PSOE and Sumar coalition government, had already threatened to go to unemployment after the protest they staged on June 11 at the judicial headquarters throughout Spain. Finally, after consulting among its associates and without margin to negotiate with the Government in full political earthquake due to the revelations of the Civil Guard report on Santos Cerdán, a sector of judges and prosecutors sent a letter to all the members of both careers to announce a series of mobilizations.

It is not the first time that judges and prosecutors protest before the courts against a law promoted by the PSOE coalition government and add. They already did it at the end of 2023 after the announcement of Amnesty’s law, in an unusual act in democracy in Spain.
