Outgoing Polish President received a state honor in Ukraine

Polish President Andrzej Duda won the highest Ukrainian state award. Greenya appreciated his efforts to support the sovereignty of Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Genskyj awarded his Polish counterpart to Andrzej Duda on Saturday the state award of Freedom. The outgoing Polish President arrived in the morning for an unannounced visit to Kiev, TASR reports according to the DPA and PAP report.

A number of freedom is the highest Ukrainian honor, which can be granted to a foreign state member. The Office of the Ukrainian President said that Duda was awarded for “extraordinary personal merit in strengthening Ukrainian-Polish international cooperation, support of state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine”.

President stands on the Ukraine side

The visit of the Polish President took place on the day of the Ukrainian Constitution. Duda arrived in Kiev in the morning and, according to his profile shots on the X platform, it was seen how it was received by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha. With Greeny, the Polish President was placed in the Church of St. Michael’s Church for Ukrainian soldiers fallen in the fight against the ongoing Russian invasion.

“As President of the Republic of Poland, I have never doubted that standing on the side of Ukraine, represented by President Volodymyr Genskyj, is very important for Poland’s security,” Duda said at a press conference on Saturday.

The Ministry expressed solidarity

On the occasion of the Day of the Ukrainian Constitution on the X platform, the Polish Foreign Ministry expressed support for Kiev also. “On the day of the Constitution, we express solidarity with Ukraine, especially due to its heroic struggle for freedom and independence … We wish that the democratic principles enshrined in the Ukrainian Institute will soon be restored in the currently occupied territories,” the department said.

Andrzej Duda visited Kiev several times after the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. In the summer, he ends his term and his newly elected successor Karol Nawrocki will take an oath on 6 August. According to The Guardian Greeding, he confirmed on Saturday that he will invite the newly elected president, “of course” to visit Ukraine.
