In Pakistan, 32 people, including children, died as a result of monsoon rains and floods. Destroyed houses and high risk of extreme conditions threaten many others.
Heavy rain and subsequent floods have already claimed at least 32 victims in Pakistan this week, including 16 children, the representatives of the local disaster solutions said on Saturday. According to the National Meteorological Service, the risk of extreme weather remains valid until Tuesday, TASR reports according to AFP report.
Strong rain this week caused the arrival of the monsoon season. Only in the last 36 hours, according to representatives of the northern province of Chajbar Pashtúnchwa, 19 people, of which eight children have died. Up to 13 victims reported from the Svat Valley, where on Friday flood water pulled several members of one family in the same river. The floods in this province also damaged at least 56 houses, six of which were completely destroyed.
In the eastern province of Punjab, the floods claimed at least 13 victims, including eight children who died in collapsing walls and roofs of houses. Extreme weather also hit the southern province of Sindh.
AFP recalls that Pakistan is one of the world’s most vulnerable countries in connection with climate change, and its approximately 240 million inhabitants are increasingly struggling with extreme weather.
