São Paulo, SP (Folhapress)-Less than a week after the President Donald Trump said on Friday (27) that “no doubt” would order new attacks on the Persian country if Tehran again enriches uranium in what he called worrying levels.

The Republican also criticized Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and said he gave up plans to suspend sanctions against the Persian country. The threatened tough speech, they occurred after the Iranian’s first pronouncement since the ceasefire in the conflict, which came into force last Tuesday (24), in which he said Tehran “slapped the US face” by launching an attack on an important American base in response to the American weekend bombing.

Trump said that before Khamenei’s statements, he was working on the plan to suspend sanctions and help in the Iranian recovery. However, according to him, the aggressive rhetoric of the country’s leader led him to completely abandon the initiative. “I get a statement of hatred, anger and contempt – and I immediately abandoned all the work on relief from sanctions. And much more,” said the Republican.
During the press conference at the White House, Trump was also asked if new attacks on Iranian nuclear places in the future. “Surely, no doubt, absolutely,” he answered.

The president also expressed support for inspection by the International Atomic Energy Agency (AIEA) of the places affected in the American action, although Iranian parliamentarians voted to suspend the visits. The agency’s director, Rafael Grossi, said that resuming inspections is a priority, but Iranian chancellor Abbas Araqchi indicated that Tehran may reject any new request.

Despite the tension scenario, Trump said he believes Iran is exhausted and no longer wants to look for a nuclear weapon. According to him, the country still wants to discuss a way out of the crisis, although, according to the White House, no meeting between representatives of both countries had been marked until Friday.

On social networks, Trump said he spared Khamenei’s life. American authorities told the Reuters news agency on June 15 that the Republican vetoed an Israeli plan to kill the supreme leader. “His country was decimated and his three evil nuclear facilities were destroyed. I knew exactly where he was sheltered and did not allow Israel or the US Armed Forces, from afar the largest and most powerful in the world to end his life,” the Republican wrote in the Social Truth. “I saved him from a very ugly and ignominious death,” he added in capital letters.

The American offensive against Iran reached three Iranian nuclear facilities in Natanz, Isfahan and Fordow. Iranian retaliation against Washington’s base at Qatar, in turn, was considered choreographed as no damage was reported and Tehran warned about the action in advance.

On Thursday (26), Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said his country would have killed Khamenei if it had been possible during the 12 days of conflict between nations.

On the same day, Iran’s ambassador to Brazil, Abdollah Nekornam, said the Persian country will continue to enrich uranium despite the US and Israel attacks on the Tehran nuclear program. “Our achievements were made as Western and US countries forbade us. So we do not make a point and it is not important to us if they prohibit. We firmly follow our desires and interests,” he said.
