He died on Saturday (28) at the age of 103, who was governor of the Federal District from 1982 to 1985.
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Ornellas was an army official and arrived in the early 1970s for provisional work at the Undersecretary of Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture. Then he worked at Telebrás.
In politics, he was chosen by President João Figueiredo, the last of the Federal District governor. In the 1980s, President Jose Sarney exonerated Ornellas, who joined the Legislative Chamber. He was elected district deputy, exercising his term from 1991 to 1995.
During his mandate in the DF government, Zé Ornellas, as he was known, had marks on the infrastructure of the federal capital, such as the creation of Vila São José, in Brazil, and the urbanization of Planaltina.
In 1993, Ornellas took over the Secretariat Industry, Commerce and Development, in the government of Joaquim Roriz. He ran for reelection in 1994, but was unsuccessful.
He was married to Zely Ornellas, with whom he had two children. The current governor, (), decreed official mourning for three days.
