Dive with water at -6ºC? A tradition with decades in Chile

The waters of the narrow of Magalhães have been chosen for 25 years by thousands of Chileans in celebration.

Thousands of people took this Saturday a dive in the icy waters of the Magellan Strait in southern Chile.

At a party that began in 2000 and has more and more participants, this year had more than 7,400 people, celebrating the beginning of winter in the southern hemisphere diving into the icy waters of the Magellan Strait.

This year, the water was -6ºC, but it doesn’t even seem to take the enthusiasts.

The Magellan Strait is the largest and most important natural passage among the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The Portuguese navigator Fernão de Magalhães was the first European to navigate the Strait in 1520, during the circum-gathering trip.
