The best water filter
Our expert has chosen the Aora Hydrosolve model for its great quality and its value for money.
When there is a good weather there is nothing that I like more than going to the field to practicing hiking and enjoying a good walk in contact with nature. In addition, many weekends take the opportunity to combine hiking with Vivac, a practice that consists of sleeping outdoors, without using tent or shelter.
Therefore, for me it is essential to be well equipped for my escapes of nature: a good, comfortable and resistant, … and another essential element: a water filter. And these tools allow water or rivers water to be purified so that it can be consumed without problems that affect health. To check which are the best water filters on the market, I have analyzed four models and tell you which one to buy.
How we have chosen and tested the products:
For a month I have been using water filters who participate in this comparison to check their benefits. To do this I have taken them with different escapes to the field and I have used them to purify the water of rivers, streams and ditches. In addition, when analyzing and assessing them I have taken into account the following aspects:
- Design: How is your construction quality.
- Ease of use: If the product is easily handled or not. We can advance that all of them are used quite comfortable.
- Autonomy: Each model is prepared to filter a certain amount of liters.
- Results: This aspect is linked to the experience of use of the water filter. Does it fulfill its purpose? How is the suction process? Does the water know well?
With water filtration in three stages: Aora Hydrosolve

Who is it for: who looks for a high quality filter.
Why have we chosen it: The first thing that surprised me was its size: it is quite compact (it has the dimensions of a DIN A4 folio), despite composing several elements and, in addition, it weighs little (about 2 kilos). It
I carried inside my backpack, in its transport bag, and barely noticed that I was there, something that seems important to me especially on long routes, because wearing a lot of weight makes it difficult to walk more lightly. Aesthetically it resembles a bicycle pump, since it is composed of two tubes and a valve to which a series of tubes must be connected to perform the process of purifying the water. It has a fairly decent flow: you can filter up to 2 liters per minute, which is appreciated when you have to fill bottles quickly.
The system includes three stages: a prefilter, for thick particles; a sediment filter, for sand, water, oxide …; and a filtration membrane that, according to the manufacturer, eliminates 99,9999% of bacteria, protozoa and microplastics.
Although it is not possible to know if this is 100% truth, the truth is that I drank water from puddles and streams and the taste was good and the water was quite clear. To use it you just have to introduce one of your tubes in the water you want to filter and go to the valve to pass through your filtration system and, in a few minutes, it is already possible to consume it without problems.
In addition, it brings a syringe to make the retro-lavade and keep the filter clean, something that seems very useful to always keep it ready. In general it seems to me a filter with good quality, although its price is perhaps a bit high and not everyone wants to bet on it.
Your weak points: Its price is high.
Technical file
- Peso: 2,12 kg
- Power supply: manual (bomb)
- Filter: Triple filtration
- Others: Transportation bag, prefilter, sediment filter and filtration membrane, pump …
With 1 liter of capacity: Bergkvist bottle with outdoor water filter

Who is it for: who looks for an economic filter bottle to carry from camping.
Why have we chosen it: With a wide water bottle -shaped design, it is a model that fits perfectly on the side of the backpack or even hanging from the carabiner. It has a capacity of 1 liter and dimensions of 11 x 11 x 20 centimeters. You do not need additional accessories or transport bags, which makes it perfect for those who seek simplicity in their outputs. The filter is integrated into its pitorro, so you don’t have to make any assembly or pump: you simply collect water from a stream or fountain and you can drink directly from the nozzle. The filter begins to act at the time you suck, and virtually no resistance to drinking is noticeable.
The filtering system consists of three stages: a prefilter for sediments, an activated carbon filter that improves flavor and reduces odors, and an ultrafiltration membrane of 0.01 microns. I picked up water from a small pond and, even so, the resulting water had no bad taste or smell, and was visually clear. In addition, not having to wait a long time to drink it seemed to me a great advantage.
In short, a practical and effective solution for short getaways or routes in which you have frequent access to natural water sources. It does not replace a more complete filtration system, but as a rapid and uncomplicated alternative, it perfectly fulfills its function and offers very good quality for the price it has.
Your weak points: The bottle is plastic.

- Peso: 350 kg
- Filter: Triple filtration
- Others: Hanging carabiner, filter inside …
Bottle -shaped: Bachgold

Who is it for: those who want a filter that has a bottle shape.
Why have we chosen it: Although it is not the smallest in the market, it is compact enough to carry it without hindering. It has a design similar to the previously analyzed, but more elongated model and inside are two sealing rings and the filter in charge of eliminating the impurities of the water. This works with a triple system, composed of an antibacterial active carbon filter, an ultrafiltra membrane of hollow fiber and a prefilter. It has a capacity of 500 milliliters and the filter is necessary to change it after 2,500 uses.
At the operation level, the system is very intuitive: you just have to fill the bottle with the water that you want to consume and that the filter does its job so that, in about 10 minutes, the water can be consumed safely. According to the manufacturer, it eliminates bacteria, protozoa, microplastics and even oxide remains. Although I have no way to verify those percentages, the truth is that the water came out clear, without a rare flavor, and did not cause me any stomach problem. I also liked its easy transport, since it has a carabiner to easily hang it in a backpack. In addition, it only weighs 400 grams, so it can also be carried comfortably inside a backpack.
In general I think it is a comfortable water filter, but in which it really is worth its filter (it is worth the redundancy), since the bottle itself is plastic. Even so, it seems to me a practical option.
Your weak points: The bottle is plastic and its price is expensive for its benefits.

Compact and easy to transport: Swyngoo water filter

Who is it for: Those who are looking for a small filter to carry comfortably anywhere.
Why have we chosen it: I tried the Swyngoo water filter during a hiking route of several days: the first thing I noticed when using it was its compact size: although it includes several components, it occupies very little and weighs very little. I took him in my backpack throughout the journey and barely noticed that he was involved in it.
At the aesthetic level, it looks a lot like an inflate bike wheel pump. It has a main tube, a pumping valve and a water bag. The assembly is not complicated, although the first time I had to take a quick look at the instructions to be sure of how everything worked. Once mounted, the operation is quite simple: one end is placed in the water source (a stream, a puddle …), pumps manually and the water goes through the different stages of the filtration system. Once the water is cleaned, it is advisable to spit the first sip and start drinking from there.
The system works correctly, although it does not have the same benefits as the other more advanced models. In your case, it uses activated carbon in nanofibers to purify water and, according to the manufacturer, is able to effectively eliminate 99% of harmful bacteria to a 0.01 microns filtration. In general, to filter small amounts of water it seemed effective, but it does not have the quality that the other models analyzed.
Your weak points: Less quality than the previous ones.
Technical file
- Peso: 0,15 kg
- Filter: Triple filtration
- Others: Straw shape, activated carbon with nanofibra, 1 portable water bag, 1 cord, 1 extensor filter straw …
Another interesting water filter model
If you are looking for a water bottle -shaped filter:

Apparently the Solution Membrane model is the same as a bottle of water that is taken on the bicycle, but inside it has double ACF filters (activated carbon fiber) + UF (ultrafiltration). These provide a 6 -stage filtration that transforms low quality water into drinking water. The ACF filter lasts up to 500 liters, while the UF filter offers a useful life of 4000 liters.
Frequent questions about water filters:
How does a survival water filter work?
It works through a stages filtration system that removes particles, sediments, microorganisms and, in some cases, chemical pollutants. Water passes through mechanical filters (pre filters, membranes) and sometimes activated carbon.
What kind of pollutants eliminates?
It depends on each model, but in general they eliminate: bacteria (such as E. coli, Salmonella); protozoa (such as Giardia, Cryptosporidium); microplastics; sediments (sand, mud, oxide); as well as bad taste and smell (if they have activated carbon).
Do filters eliminate viruses?
Most of them do not. Only very advanced models or with specific technology (such as nanofiber filters or UV) can eliminate virus. In areas of high health or abroad, it is convenient to combine these products with watercabilizer pill.
