This measure, which will come into force from August, directly affects teachers with temporary contract, who currently represent 52% of classroom professionals. Previously, these contracts could only be terminated at the end of the school year. However, with the new rule, termination may immediately occur if the teacher lacks more than six times in the month without justification, such as medical or dental certificate. In addition, the new policy also impacts teachers who work in full time.

Those who exceed the limit of faults without justification will be required to change school unit the following year. These professionals receive an additional R $ 2,100 to work in full -time schools. The Department of Education had already implemented measures such as the salary discount for non -justified absences, but, according to the agency, this strategy was not effective. However, the decision has generated controversy and resistance among teachers, which point out precarious working conditions, low wages and mental tiredness as causes for absences.
