Since returning to power on January 20, the US President has been pressured to implement global tariffs, just to partially suspend them, giving time to other countries to negotiate new commercial pacts with the United States.
US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he sees no need to extend the tariff truce beyond July 9, adding that he prefers to send a letter to countries directly define the rates they will have to pay.
“I don’t think I need to do it [prolongar a trégua]. I could, (…) But what I want to do and what I am going to do before the 09th is to send a letter to all these countries, “he said in an interview with Fox News Sunday Morning Futures.
The Republican leader noted that it is not feasible to talk to all countries.
“It’s 200. You can’t talk to everyone. No matter how many people you have, you can’t. We’ll send you a letter and we will say, ‘That’s what you’ll have to buy in the United States,’ as in big warehouses,” Trump said, stressing that Washington will determine the tariff and that if it is not accepted, you want “good luck”, as this will be the end of the agreement.

During this period, he has signed agreements with China and the United Kingdom and, this week, closed negotiations with Canada, with immediate effect, on the tariffs planned by that country about the digital services of US technological companies.
