The Legislative Assembly of Rio (Alerj) overturned Governor Claudio Castro’s veto on Monday and approved the law that returns to the State Government the management of the sambadrome in Marquis of Sapucaí. The proposal, signed by the leader of the government base, Rodrigo Amorim (Union), was approved with 38 votes in favor and 19 against – further intensifying the dispute between the governor’s group and Mayor Eduardo Paes (PSD).
Shortly after the vote, Paes used social networks to criticize the measure and warned that he will appeal to court. With irony, he said that the state must be “very quiet” to want to take charge of Carnival.
“This is all because the state of Rio is very safe, without any problem in its security forces and with the very stable financial situation.” That is: with time and money to take care of the carnival. My God from heaven! Only the discussion of this theme is already such a waste of time.

The mayor continued the reaction:
– They had to pass the Imperator and the Municipal Theater to City Hall, who should take care of these things. With this, they would leave municipal tasks for municipal power and could devote more time and focus on safety, improve public health, maintenance of back roads, rail transportation (subway and supervia expansion), and large investments in infrastructure… poor state of Rio!
Despite the criticism, Paes made a point of remembering that Claudio Castro had vetoed the bill – and that the overthrow of the veto came from the allied deputies of the governor.

Behind the scenes, the measure was seen as another play of the pre-campaign of Rodrigo Bacellar (Union), president of Alerj, to the State Government. On the same day, the house also approved the call of the state secretary of transport, Washington Reis – another name Paes tries to attract to his political field – to testify at the CPI of Transparency.
