At least two dead firefighters in the US for a shooting during a forest fire

At least two firefighters died this Sunday for a shooting during a forest fire in Idaho, a state on the northern border of the United States, which motivated the deployment of the Federal Bureau of Research (FBI) before the report of a possible ambush.

The shooting, perpetrated by a still undetermined number of suspects that are still free, began around 14:00 hours of the local time (22:00 GMT) after the firefighters responded to the report of a fire on the Canfield mountain in the town of Coeur D’Alne, near the border with the state of Washington.

The shooting remained active until the last report offered by Robert Norris, Kootenai County Sheriff, where the attackers have used “high power.”

“It was reported that firefighters were receiving shots. We now have two dead. We have an unknown number of injuries. We also have civilians who are getting out of the mountain, also possibly civilians who are trapped or in Schock. This is a very fresh situation,” said the sheriff in a press conference.

Until now, the reason for the attack is unknown, but the local press reports an alleged ambush.

The deputy director of the FBI, Dan Bongino, reported on his social networks that Bureau agents “go to the scene in Cour d’Airne to poveer tactive and operational support.”

Idaho Governor Brad Little confirmed that “several heroic firefighters suffered an attack when they responded to a fire” in the north of the state, near the border with Canada.

“This is an atrocious direct attack on our brave firefighters. I ask all Idaho inhabitants to pray for them and their families while we hope to know more,” he said in X.

The United States has registered at least 189 mass shootings, in which at least four people receive shots without counting the attacker, so far from 2025, according to the civil organization Gun Violence Archive.
