Botafogo announced on Sunday night (29) the resignation of coach Renato Paiva. The decision was communicated to the coach after the club’s elimination at the FIFA World Cup.
Paiva had been running the team since the beginning of the season and accumulated remarkable moments, such as the historic victory over Paris Saint-Germain, still in the group stage of the international tournament.
In an official note, the club thanked the work of Paiva and his assistants, also highlighting the classifications for the round of 16 Libertadores and the Brazilian Cup. The departure, however, occurs amid frustration for early elimination in the World Cup, the club’s main objective this semester.
Also according to the club’s statement, John Texor, owner of Saf Botafoguense, and the board of the football department are already in the market in search of a substitute. The next coach will have the mission of “continuing on the way to the titles, fighting for the two -time champion of Libertadores and the Brazilian and the unprecedented title of the Brazilian Cup.”
With the departure of Paiva, Botafogo arrives at their third coach in the last two years, amid a project that tries to consolidate the club again among the protagonists of South American football.
