Palestinians in the north of the Gaza range reported one of the worst nights of Israeli bombing in weeks after the military issued mass withdrawal orders on Monday, while Israeli authorities were in Washington for a new Trump government ceasefire effort.

One day after US President Donald Trump asked for the end of the 20-month war, a confidant from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected at the White House for talks about a ceasefire in Gaza, Iran and possible regional diplomatic agreements.

But on the grounds of the Palestinian enclave, there was no sign that the fighting would be decreasing.

“The explosions would not stop; they bombarded schools and houses. It looked like an earthquake,” said Salah, 60, father of five children, from the city of Gaza. “In the news, we hear that a ceasefire is close, but on the ground we see deaths and hear explosions.”

The Israeli tanks entered the oriental areas of the Suburb of Zeitoun, in the city of Gaza, and bombarded several areas in the north, while aircraft bombed at least four schools after ordering hundreds of households to leave, according to residents.

At least 25 people were killed in Israeli attacks on Monday, health officials said, including 10 people killed in Zeitoun.

The Israeli military said they have reached militant targets in northern Gaza, including command and control centers, after taking steps to mitigate the risk of wounding civilians.

The heavy bombing followed new withdrawal orders to vast areas in the north, where Israeli forces had previously operated and left behind a large -scale destruction. The military ordered people to go south, saying they planned to combat Hamas militants operating in northern Gaza, including the heart of the city of Gaza.

Later on Monday, the Nasser Hospital health authorities in Khan Younis said at least 13 people died southwest from the city of Gaza, raising the death town on Monday to at least 38.

The doctors said most of the victims were shot, but residents also reported an air strike. The Israeli Armed Forces made no immediate comment on the incident.

Next Steps

One day after Trump asked to “make the agreement in Gaza, bring the hostages back,” Israel’s Minister of Strategic Affairs, Ron Dermer, a Netanyahu confidant, is expected on Monday at the White House for conversations about Iran and Gaza, an Israeli authority said.

In Israel, Netanyahu’s security office should meet to discuss the next steps in Gaza.

On Friday, Israel’s military chief stated that the current terrestrial operation was close to reaching its goals, and on Sunday, Netanyahu said new opportunities had emerged to recover hostages, which are believed to be still alive.

Palestinian and Egyptian sources with knowledge of the latest efforts to ceasefire said that Qatar and Egypt mediators intensified their contacts with both sides in conflict, but a date for a new round of truce trading has not yet been set.

A Hamas Authority said progress depends on Israel to change its position and agree to end the war and withdraw from Gaza. Israel states that it can only end the war when Hamas is disarmed and dismantled. Hamas refuses to testify his weapons.
