The earthquake with the thickness of 4.6 on the Richter scale occurred on Monday at 12.37 p.m. This was followed by several aftershocks. According to the Italian Institute for Geophysics and Vulkanology (INGV), the epicenter was located at a depth of almost five kilometers off the coast of the small town of Bacoli, one of the nine municipalities in the volcano -active phlegraic fields. The earthquake was also clearly perceived in the Naples lying just a few kilometers east of Bacoli. To be on the safe side, the authorities hired regional train traffic and the operation of the metro in the 900,000-inhabitant city. In the evening the trains ran regularly. Apparently there has been no major damage in the entire earthquake area.
