A newborn baby was found alive after surviving alone for several days, alongside the body of his deceased mother, in a house in Phoenix, the US state of Arizona. The case, which took place last month, has only been released by local authorities, who published images of the rescue captured by the chambers incorporated in the uniforms of the agents.
The warning came from the neighbors, worried that they had no news of the woman or the child for several days. Given the absence of response, the police decided to break into the housing door, where they would eventually find the baby wrapped in blankets, lying on the bed next to the mother’s body.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, the newborn was “severely dehydrated” and “clinging to life.” The child was immediately transported to the hospital in critical condition, but, according to the authorities, already has significant improvements and is expected to survive.
The identity of the baby and mother was not revealed, as the cause of the woman’s death remains to determine. “The mother passed away while the child was still in bed, where he left her,” said Sergeant Brian Bower, police spokesman. “The child could not have survived much more time.”
This dramatic rescue has moved the local community, being described by the authorities as an example of the importance of community ties and surveillance of neighbors.
