The intense heat that was felt last Sunday in Portugal gave way to an atmospheric phenomenon as impressive as unexpected: a huge roller cloud surprised those on the beaches in the late afternoon, creating a scenario worthy of a movie.
Low, elongated and with a cylindrical shape to ras the horizon, the cloud seemed a real giant wave about to break over the swimmers. The phenomenon has not gone unnoticed and was spotted in several coastal areas of the country.
The sudden change in time brought strong wind and an air of instability, resulting from the heat wave that hit the continent over the weekend. According to the IPMA, these extreme conditions also originated thunderstorms, sweeteners, hail and fires in various regions.
Images such as those released by the Meteo Trás-os-Montes page show the roll cloud to advance impressively on the coast, leaving those who watched between fascination and restlessness.
