Thousands of New Yorkers took to the streets this Sunday (29) for the LGBT Pride Parade. Colorful floats, costumes and performances highlighted the annual tradition of New York City.
The march began as an annual celebration of the Stonewall Revolt on June 28, 1969 at Stonewall Inn, when Greenwich Village’s gay bar customers reacted to a police crash, triggering days of manifestations, sometimes violent, in protest against harassment.
This year marks the 56th anniversary of the Stonewall Revolt.
This year’s celebration occurs after US President Donald Trump, issuing decrees that limit transgender rights, and revoke anti -discrimination for LGBTQ+persons.
LANCE BRAMMER, one of the people who were at the stop, said
“It is very important, because there is a lot of negativity, and it seems that with the current climate, if we continue to take rights, we will become invisible and we will not be here anymore. So, I think everyone manifesting and demonstrating their support this year is more important than ever,” he said.
