The best result of Jessica Pegula in Wimbledon will continue to be the quarterfinals in 2023

The American, number 3 in the world, became the first Top 5 player to be eliminated in this edition of, after losing to Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto (n.116) on Tuesday (1). Cocciaretto closed the game in 2 sets at 0, with partials of 6-2 and 6-3, in just 57 minutes.

Pegula’s defeat is surprising not only for the difference in ranking for opponents, but also because the American was champion last weekend of Bad Homburg’s WTA 500, also played in the grass, with a victory in the Polish Iga Swiatek (n.4) final.

Jessica Pegula’s best result in Wimbledon will continue to be the quarterfinals in 2023, an edition in which she eliminated Cocciaretto herself in the third round. The Italian, which was already number 29 in the world, gets its first victory against a Top 5 player, in its third participation in Wimbledon.
