José Luís Carneiro will start a ‘European route’ to help solve the crisis that has penalized social democratic parties on the old continent.

According to, the former Minister of Internal Affairs wants to contribute to finding coordinated responses, at European level, so that socialist, labor and social democratic parties exceed the crisis they have suffered in recent years.
The first meeting will be this Wednesday with the group of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) in the European Parliament.
Then, the morning states, the new PS leader intends to meet with the UK Labor Party, Spain’s PSOE and Germany SPD.
The goal is to have common political project at the European level.
Quoted by the public, Carneiro intends to be established, within the Socialist International and the European Socialist Party (PSE), “lines of political priority” that respond to “real concerns and fears of development”, which plague European populations, in matters such as “employment, performance and living conditions”, that is, in the work, housing, health and social protection.
The socialist foresees a “line of action by 2050”. For this, it is necessary for social democrats to prepare “Policies that new generations want to put into practice in society”.
At meetings, Carneiro intends to reaffirm the idea “that the Portuguese want to actively participate in European policies”, with the objective of “ensuring their strategic autonomy in the domains of defense, safety, energy, food and health”.
