Psychologists from Chile have found that there is an international match regarding which means to be cool (interesting). They conducted experiments with almost six thousand participants from different countries and found that people who are considered cool have surprisingly similar personality traits. It turned out that these people are universally perceived very similarly.
“Everyone wants to be cool, or at least avoid stigma that Cool is not, society needs cool people because they disrupt norms, inspire changes and move culture forward,” The research manager Todd Pezzuti from Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez in Chile said.
The study included experiments that took place between 2018 and 2022 in the United States, Australia, Chile, China, Germany, India, Mexico, Nigeria, Spain, South Africa, Korea and Turkey. The participants were asked to imagine someone they consider cool, not cool, good or bad. Then they evaluated the personality and values of these people.
The analysis shows that people considered good were perceived as more conforming, more honored traditions, more secure, warm, more pleasant, more conscientious and calmer. On the contrary – cool people were perceived as extroverted, hedonist, more powerful, adventurous, more open and more independent.
“To be considered a cool one, it must usually be to some extent sympathetic or admirable what makes them similar good people. But cool people often have other qualities that are not necessarily considered good in the moral sense, such as hedonism and the desire for power, “added co -author Caleb Warren.
According to scientists, the importance of what cool is, thanks to the global influence of fashion, music and film industry He got into a similar set of values and features around the world and became more commercially more friendly. Research was published online in the Journal of Experimental Psychology: General.
