Ginjinha without rival: Centenary store in the heart of Lisbon at risk of closing

The owner of the space, inserted in a hotel, wants to leave the tenant and take care of the business. Nuno Gonçalves, manager of Ginjinha without rival, promises not to lower his arms, even if this involves going to the tirabunals.

A centuries -old Ginjinha sales store in the heart of Lisbon is again at risk. The lease will end and the owner of the space, inserted in a hotel, wants the tenant to take care of the business.

“We received a letter from the new landlord a few months ago to say that it opposes the automatic renewal of the contract. We tried in every way to reach an agreement, but you have an irreversible attitude,” says Nuno Gonçalves, manager of Ginjinha without rival, which is part of the history of Lisbon.

The owner of this family business does not intend to lower his arms, even if this involves the courts.

The building where the store is inserted is now a hotel, which even wants to continue selling Ginjinha, but does not want tenants.

Founded 135 years ago, this small 10 square meter space has gone through three generations and does not intend to stop here.
