The Francisco de Vitoria Judicial Association justifies the strike against judicial reform for being “the most serious setback in 40 years”

The spokesman of the Francisco de Vitoria Judicial Association (AJFV), Sergio Oliva, has defended the strike convened since Tuesday by the five conservative associations of judges and prosecutors against judicial reforms undertaken by the government that suppose, in his opinion, the most serious setback in the Judiciary during the last 40 years.

“The judges are on strike. During July 1, 2 and 3, we second a strike to make visible our opposition to the approval of a law that involves the most serious setback in the Judiciary during the last 40 years. That threatens the citizen right to an independent and impartial justice. A justice, after all, independent of political power,” says Oliva in a statement.

The Professional Association of Magistracy (APM), the Francisco de Vitoria Judicial Association (AJFV), Independent Judicial Forum (FJI), the Association of Prosecutors (AF) and the Professional and Independent Association of Prosecutors (APIF) are the convenings of this three -day strike that will run from today until Thursday despite the General Council of the Judiciary.

In the statement, the AJFV spokesman regrets the damages that will be caused to citizens and legal operators and remember that the strike committee has established minimum services to make it compatible to attend urgent actions with the exercise of the right to strike. However, he believes that when the years go by, “we do not want to reproach or regret not having done enough.”

They protest the project that modifies the law of the Judiciary
and the draft that reforms the Organic Statute of the Fiscal Ministry. They consider that it is a law that intends arbitrary access to the judiciary, which privileges people who access the fourth turn to occupy the judicial dome, which restricts democratic participation in government halls and politicizes the Judicial Ethics Commission. They also denounce that the powers of the State Attorney General on the prosecutors “with the damages and risks” increase that this entails for all the processes in which they are part and initiates a stabilization process of 1,004 judges and substitutes’ prosecutors “contravening the principles of merit, capacity and equality” under the “fallacious” argument that Europe requires it.

They regret that this reform “hurts the body of opponents who day after day, year after year, they sacrifice their personal and family life to get the dream of being a judge or prosecutor.” “We all want modern and European justice, but this law intends precisely otherwise,” highlights AJFV. (EFE)
