The Polish government is considering the introduction of measures to combat illegal migration on the border with Lithuania. Prime Minister Donald Tusk did not exclude the introduction of border controls at Monday’s press conference. TASR writes according to PAP.

According to Tusk, the government has invested “a lot of effort, money, sweat and unfortunately also blood to make the eastern border with Belarus impermeable.” It is therefore necessary to introduce measures to prevent illegal migrants from getting to Poland through the Lithuanian territory.

Lithuanian border guards’ spokesman Giedrius Misutis said in response that Poland has not informed Lithuania about any plans to introduce controls at the border between the two countries.

Misutis told the Baltic news agency of the BNS that the question in question concerns the so -called. secondary migration when Migrants move to another country from the state in which they originally sought refuge. He added that more than 300 such people were stopped this year, most of them on the Lithuanian side of the border.

Warsaw is also considering introducing controls on the border with Germany. “We informed the German side that if there are cases that we consider non-standard, we will have to restore checks on the Polish-German border,” He said Tusk, who responded to reports that Germany may be sending illegal migrants to Poland.
