PL leader in the House, Deputy Sostenes Cavalcante (RJ), said on Monday (30) that former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) is the acronym “plan” for the 2026 presidential dispute. The statement was given in an interview with the Roda Viva program, from TV Cultura.
Bolsonaro is by decision of the Electoral Court and is a defendant in a criminal case in the Supreme Federal Court (STF) that investigates his participation in an attempted coup d’état in 2022.
“We have no alternatives”
“We at PL have a certainty: our plan to 2026 is Jair Bolsonaro. We have no alternatives to him. The penalties imposed on him from impediment, in our assessment, are unfair and we will work so that he is our candidate, because he is the leader in all research,” said Gostenes.
Despite legal barriers, the deputy stated that the former president remains as the party’s main name. According to him, if Bolsonaro remains prevented from running, the definition of a possible substitute will be a personal decision of the former president.
“President Bolsonaro has the right timer, has our credibility, and at the right time will make that decision,” he said.
Sostenes mentioned that if Bolsonaro is definitely prevented, names such as Tarcisio de Freitas (Republicans-SP) and Romeu Zema (Novo-MG) can be considered. “But it will be up to him [Bolsonaro] Decide, ”he added.
