The governor of São Paulo, sanctioned on Monday (30) Law number 18.157, which establishes the creation of a specific state register for people convicted of rape crimes. This measure, which has already been published in the Official Gazette, is scheduled to take effect within the next 30 days. Registration will be comprehensive, including complete personal data, photo, physical characteristics, fingerprints and genetic material of the convicts, whose judgments are in res judicata. In addition, the law also applies to those who have already fulfilled their penalties.

The proposal was initially submitted by Deputy Gil Diniz of the Liberal Party (PL), and received approval from the Legislative Assembly of the State of São Paulo before being sent to the governor for sanction. The responsibility for the creation, regulation and updating of this database will be from the Public Security Secretariat.
