Turkuć Ujadek (Gryllotalpa Gryllotalpa) is one of the largest. It can reach over 6 cm long and over 4 cm of span. Its Polish name is a combination of insect features. Turking because it turns very loudly, with females. Insects make sounds by rubbing two parts of the body on each other, just like crickets. Resonators placed at the base of the first pair of wings are responsible for this sound. However, the snack, of course, came from snacking. Importantly, the insect eagerly eats arable plants as well as weeds. However, he will not despise other insects that he will find on his way, so it can also clean the soil of other pests and their larvae.

Turking, how to get rid of the insect from the garden?

Before we start fighting Turkuiec, it is worth knowing his habits. Turkuć eating prefers moist soils, rich in humus and not very often dug. He likes warmth and quiet places. Therefore, if we want to get rid of it from the garden, we should regularly dig the earth, especially in spring and autumn. This will make it difficult for them to build tunnels and lay eggs. If our plot is wet, it is worth taking care of drainage. Turkutia like a damp environment, so lowering groundwater levels can discourage them. We can also protect sensitive plants, such as vegetable cuttings or fruit trees, by digging small mesh to the ground around them. The mesh should protrude a few centimeters above the soil surface. It is also worth taking care of appropriate plantings. Some plants, such as velvet, garlic, basil and calendula, secrete turquet scares. They can be planted near crops exposed to attacks. Let’s create conditions in the garden conducive to the occurrence of natural enemies of Turkucia, such as hedgehogs, birds of prey or flies larvae. Turquet are sensitive to vibrations and sounds. You can use it by sticking metal rods on the ground, on which we hang the cans. Under the influence of wind, the cans will hit the bars, generating sounds that will scare off the pests. We can make traps ourselves, e.g. by burying a jar filled with water with the addition of beer in the ground. Turkut lured by the smell will fall into the jar and will not be able to get out. However, remember to regularly check the traps and release captured individuals away from crops. Turkut also like compost, so it’s worth placing a composter in a remote corner of the plot. We can also regularly transfer organic residues from the composter crops to lure Turkut to this place. Remember that turkuć eating is not useless. It loosen the soil, eats insect larvae and contributes to the decomposition of organic matter. Instead of striving for complete extermination, it is worth focusing on limiting his population and protecting sensitive crops. Avoid the use of chemical plant protection products that can harm them.
