A 12 -year -old boy, Sebastian, lost his life on Friday, June 27 at his family’s home in the Manor Grove area in Kasldord, in an incident that is reportedly linked to the dangerous “Blackout Challenge”.

The child was found unconscious while he was at home, celebrating the first divine community of his younger brother. According to his parents, he allegedly attempted a challenge on social media and included the use of scarves, with a tragic end.

This challenge provides deliberate drowning or suffocation in order to cause euphoria due to lack of oxygen. However, in many cases, it leads to brain damage or death.

Immediately mobilized police forces and an ambulance by helicopter, with Sebastian being taken to the hospital, with a police escort. However, despite the efforts of doctors, his death was found.

His father, Marcin, said publicly that he considers the internet challenge. For its part, West Yorkshire Police announced that investigations are being carried out to clarify the circumstances of the incident, which is not treated as a suspect.

The unfortunate boy’s family addresses a dramatic appeal to parents to be vigilant against the dangers of seemingly innocent internet challenges. “A dangerous internet challenge deprived him of life,” his parents said.

At the same time, there has been a money raising campaign via the Gofundme platform for family support, describing Sebastian as a “boy full of dreams, passion and incredible talent”.

This tragic incident comes shortly after a lawsuit against Tiktok by the families of other four British teenagers, who allegedly died in 2022 for the same reason.

Only for the Blackout Challenge have many cases of deaths have been recorded, with The Independent reporting in 2022 that at least 20 deaths had been linked to this internet test within 18 months.

Families who have appealed accusing the platform that its algorithm has promoted children dangerous content for profitability. “It was a clear and deliberate Tiktok business decision that claimed the lives of these children,” said a lawyer in the case.

For its part, the platform claims that it has been blocking searches and hashtags related to challenge by 2020 by 2020 and direct users to security information.
