The Donetsk Prosecutor’s Office, a Ukrainian region annexed by Russia in 2022, today arrested in the absence of the 28 -year -old citizen David Fernández, accused of fighting as a mercenary in the war in Ukraine, according to the Attorney General of Russia in its official portal. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the Spanish arrived in Ukraine in March 2022 and entered as a volunteer at the 59th Motorized Infantry Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces as mercenary. After the reorganization of this brigade it became part of the 59 assault brigade ‘Yakov Gandziuk’. The Prosecutor’s Office said that Fernández received military instruction in Ukrainian bases, after which he received full military equipment and fought against the Armed Forces of Russia, so he received a payment equivalent to more than three million rubles (more than 38,000 dollars). “Fernández was declared internationally, the Court issued against the precautionary measure of arrest in absence,” added the Russian authorities. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the criminal case was sent to the Supreme Court of the so -called Popular Republic of Donetsk to begin the judicial process.
