With the arrival of the intense cold, the government of took steps to protect the homeless population, activating the solidarity shelter at Pedro II Station, of Line 3-Red Metro. This action, coordinated by the Civil Defense, was a direct response to the special meteorological bulletin issued by the Emergency Management Center, which provides for minimum temperatures of up to 10ºC in the coming days. The shelter, which will start operating on Wednesday (2) from 19h, will offer a humanized service, providing mattresses, blankets and proper food. In addition, the pet residents will also be welcomed, ensuring that no one is left behind.

The shelter operates is scheduled to last until 8am the next morning, when the beneficiaries will receive a ticket to have breakfast at the Bom Prato restaurant, located at 25 de Março Street. Initially, the shelter is expected to remain in operation until Saturday, the 5th, due to the expectation of intense cold. However, the Civil Defense has already signaled that, if necessary, the period of operation may be extended to ensure the safety and well-being of homeless people, demonstrating flexibility and commitment to the cause.
