Beautiful purple lavender flowers decorate the garden and balcony, but if we want the plant to keep its health properties, we must collect it at the right time. Lavender is not a demanding plant in cultivation, but you must remember to cut the faded stems. Pruning itself also has a great impact on the shape of the plant and its flowering. The first such procedure is performed when the plant is small and uncomfortable. Then even half is cut. Thanks to this, the plant will release a lot of new shoots at the base, creating a dense crown. The next cut is carried out in April. Sick, broken or damaged twigs are cut. Young exuberant shoots are also shortened to get the desired shape. It is important to remember that cutting older branches too close to the ground can cause the flower to not release new shoots. The next cut is systematically carried out after the flowering of individual inflorescences, cutting it out with a fragment of the shoot of several centimeters. However, if we want the plant to retain its health properties, we must use a different cut.

When to cut the lavender?

Collections usually take place in July and August. We cut the lavender before full flourish. The color of the inflorescences is already clearly visible, but the petals remain in buds. Then the plant contains the most essential oils. The time of day is also important. It’s best to cut the lavender into a sunny morning when the plant manages to dry out of morning dew. The closer to the evening, the lower the oil concentration. Cut the branches with a sharp pruning shears.

What does lavender like?

Lavender grows well in fertile but permeable soil. The best will be alkaline soil with a pH from 6.5 to 7.0. Too sour ground must be ceased with chalk or dolomite. In garden stores you can already buy a special land for lavender growing. It is also important to ensure its adequate drainage, if the soil in our garden is not permeable enough. If we want to enjoy beautiful purple lavender flowers for a long time, choosing the right ground is just as important as the place where we plant the plant. In the care of lavender, proper fertilization is also important. In garden stores you will find ready preparations, but equally effective, you can make kitchen waste. Egg shells will be perfect. They need to be dried and then grate in a mortar or mixed. With such powder, we sprinkle the soil around lavender. Importantly, you can use both shells after raw and cooked eggs. We supply the soil every two weeks with such fertilizer. Thanks to this, we will strengthen the roots and the rest of the plant, which will repay with beautiful flowers.
