Hugo defends the House’s protagonism in tax reforms and sustainability

The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), said that the Brazilian Parliament will play a central role in the agenda of sustainable development and the structural reforms that the country should face in the coming months.

The statement took place during the opening speech of the XIII Lisbon Forum, held on Wednesday (2).

Hugo highlighted the agenda of administrative reform and fiscal sustainability. He stated that the House is committed to the modernization of the state and revealed that a working group coordinated by Deputy Pedro Paulo (PSD-RJ) is finalizing a proposal on the subject.

The expectation, according to him, is to vote the text later this year.

The mayor also highlighted the role of the house in the approval of the, which allows Brazil to adopt commercial measures against countries that impose barriers to national products.

“We endow Brazil with adequate tools to respond to discriminatory practices. It is a serene but firm response, in defense of the commercial justice and the productive dignity of our people,” he said.

Pressure on the tax agenda

Lisbon Forum

The Lisbon Forum brings together authorities, jurists and experts to discuss the challenges of the contemporary state. It is held annually at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon and organized by the Brazilian Institute of Teaching, Development and Research (IDP), the Faculty of Law of Lisbon (FDUL) and FGV Justice.

In this edition, the event guides the theme “The world in transformation – law, democracy and sustainability in the intelligent era”. Discussions revolve around the impacts of the digital age and artificial intelligence on governance, public policies and fundamental rights, seeking to understand how law can balance innovation with sustainable development.
