According to Trump, Israel approved the conditions for a ceasefire in Gaza. Hamas is to negotiate a proposal from Qatar and Egypt to stop the war lasting 20 months.
US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that Israel had agreed to the conditions of a 60-day ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. At the same time, he warned the Palestinian militant Hamas movement to accept the agreement before the situation gets worse, TASR reports according to AP.
Trump increased the pressure on the Israeli government and Hamas to reach a ceasefire and an agreement to release the hostages and ended the Gaza war. Next Monday in the White House will welcome Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“My representatives today had a long and productive meeting about Gaza with the Israelis. Israel agreed to the conditions needed to close a 60-day ceasefire, during which we will work with all the parties to end the war,” Trump wrote on social networks. According to him, the final proposal will be submitted by Qatar and Egypt.
“For the good of the Middle East, I hope that Hamas will accept this agreement, because it will not be better – it will only be worse,” Trump added.
The Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer led talks about a possible ceasefire in Gaza, Iran and other issues on Tuesday in Washington. It was expected to meet Vice President JD Vance, Foreign Minister Marc Rubio and special ambassador Steve Witkoff.
On Tuesday, Trump reiterated on Tuesday that he hopes that the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas will agree next week. He responded to the question whether the agreement could be concluded before visiting Netanyahu in Washington. The hopes to stop the fighting in Gaza, where a war-lasting war caused a humanitarian crisis, prompted the rapid end of the 12-day Iranian-Israeli conflict.
