The former ‘incarnate’ president reacted Wednesday to the process of disciplinary inquiry opened by the club, which can culminate with his expulsion of partner. Vieira, who led the eagles’ destinations for almost twenty years, is outraged and accuses the current direction of being trying to mask the recent sports failures with a process that he considers unfair and opportunistic.
In a statement sent to Lusa agency, Vieira stresses that he will not allow his name to be used as a “scapegoat” to justify what they claim to be “sports failures, property and credibility losses” that mark the current term. He also states that the achievements he has achieved at the club’s service are “unquestionable and unforgettable.”
Disciplinary proceedings were announced by Benfica in June and dates back to facts in the General Assembly of September 27, 2019, almost five years ago.
According to the minutes of this meeting, Vieira will have squeezed her neck to a partner who addressed her criticism. The episode, although old, is now invoked as the basis for a possible serious sanction: the expulsion of a partner.
It is recalled that Luís Filipe Vieira resigned in the presidency in 2021, after being detained in the scope of Operation Red Card. He was then interim replaced by Rui Costa, who would be elected president in the following elections.
With a new electoral act scheduled for October this year, Vieira admits again to apply. However, if you are expelled from a partner, you will automatically be prevented from doing so.
