Microsoft will fire 9,000 employees on the second wave of great cuts

Microsoft has started cuts of jobs that will affect about 9,000 employees, representing the second major wave of layoffs this year, at a time when the company seeks to control costs.

Less than 4% of the company’s total employees will be impacted, according to a spokesman. The cuts will affect different teams, regions and antiquity levels, being performed with the objective of simplifying processes and reducing management layers, said the spokesman.

“We continue to implement the organizational changes needed to better position the company and teams for success in a dynamic market,” said the spokesman.

A Bloomberg He had previously reported that Microsoft planned to cut thousands of jobs in July, focusing on salespeople and also affecting divisions such as Xbox. The layoffs follow an earlier round of cuts in May, which reached 6,000 people, especially in product and engineering areas.

The company had 228,000 employees at the end of June 2024, 45,000 of them in sales and marketing. Microsoft usually restructures teams and announces other changes near the end of its fiscal year, which ends in June.

Microsoft’s main sales executive, Judson Althoff, plans to take a two -month sabbatical license this month, said the Bloomberg last month. The company said the license was already planned before and that it will return in September.
