Elon Musk expressed regret for raising a chainsaw to cheer up a crowd during a conservative conference in February, as his conflict with Donald Trump about the president’s tax and spending bill returned to light.
“Milei gave me the chainsaw behind the scenes and I used it, but in retrospect, it was lacking empathy,” Musk said in an X post, referring to the Argentine president who was on stage with him at the conservative political action conference.

At CPAC, Musk was seen entering the stage wearing black, waving his hands and jumping just before accepting a Milei chainsaw. The electric tool has become a symbol of Musk’s controversial effort by government efficiency, from which he recently walked away.
Since leaving the government, Musk has been conflicting with Trump because of his criticism of the president’s tax and spending bill. The tensions between the two calmed down after Musk said that some of his comments were exaggerated, but he recently criticized the bill on his social networks.
