A new commemorative currency with a facial value of five euros is already in circulation. The play, conceived by the National Press of Mint, is part of the series “Portuguese Musicians” and pays tribute to one of the most emblematic voices of national music and television.
The currency concerned is dedicated to Simone de Oliveira, a multifaceted artist whose career has crossed national and international decades and stages. In addition to the sentimental connection to the Portuguese public, the symbolic highlight given to the singer also represents the recognition of her artistic and cultural legacy.
A piece that celebrates the Eurovision Festival
According to Banco de Portugal, the design of the frontal face of the new currency evokes the performance of Simone de Oliveira at the 1969 Eurovision Festival.
In this representation, the artist comes with an earring that includes the national shield, accompanied by the inscription “House of Mint” and the name of the author of the engraving.
Writes the same entity that the reverse of the coin includes the singer’s face, with the captions “Simone de Oliveira”, “Portugal” and the year of emission: 2025.
The design of currency bets on a aesthetic that combines national symbolism with the individual portrait of a recognized figure of the Portuguese cultural panorama. This edition is part of Banco de Portugal’s policy of launching commemorative coins that celebrate relevant historical personalities and marks.
Collectors can now acquire
The currency is not foreseen for current circulation, being intended exclusively for collective purposes. Its distribution will be carried out through credit institutions, Banco de Portugal treasurers and physical stores and online coin-casa press.
According to official information, the emission limit was fixed in 30,000 copies with normal finish, which gives this edition a potential plus future appreciation in the collecting market.
