Finance Minister assessed that action presented to the Supreme Court against the Government’s decree is not political or economic, but an ’eminently legal and natural issue of democracy’
The Minister of Finance, said on Wednesday (2) that the action presented by the government to against the legislative decree that overturned the increase in It is legal, not political or economic. According to the minister, this kind of questioning is “natural of democracy”. He spoke to journalists in the capital of Argentina after attending Mercosur meetings. “We are discussing a legal issue about the constitutionality of the decree of the President of the Republic,” said Haddad. “The Supreme has to say whether the decree is constitutional or not. It has no matter, neither economic nor political, involved. The issue is eminently legal and natural to democracy.”
The head of the farm said that there is a “subversion of the narrative” about the subject, after being asked if the government could have negotiated a solution directly with Congress. Haddad denied that the overthrow of the decree was a “betrayal” of the legislature. According to the minister, parliamentarians have the right to change government propositions.
“You want to put a word in my mouth that I didn’t say, I don’t even mention that word,” Haddad replied when asked about a possible “betrayal.” “I can’t complain about Congress, I’ve never done it. Two and a half years ago I have been taking the economic agenda forward with the support of Congress, and this is said in all my public demonstrations.” He assured that if the STF defines that the increase IOF was constitutional, things will continue to walk normally. Haddad also added that the government will continue with its schedule, seeking to meet the goals.
